Here we go! This school business sure came quick... one minute you're a baby snuggling and cooing and the next you're trotting off to school wearing a backpack sized to fit notebooks, which is cutely way to big for you :)
I am so excited for you Norah. I'm excited for you to become your very own person away from Mom & Dad. I'm excited to see you grow more and more independent. I'm excited for you to meet new and amazing people that will influence your life in ways you won't realize for a very long time. And I love that you're excited too.
In the spirit of all this new adventure, here are all the things I wish for you throughout your years at school... and really just life in general:
1) Make good friends. Really good ones. It doesn't matter how many friends you have as long as you have one or two great ones.
2) Have fun and be yourself no matter what. Trying to be someone you think other people will like is a waste of time and takes all the fun out of everything.
3) Realize that learning is fun! I realized this far too late. The more you learn and the more things you are curious about, the more paths in life that will appear.
4) Confide in your parents. Even if you're the one that's started the trouble... we've been there too and always always will be there to help you.
5) Stand up for yourself. Everyone gets picked on at least once in their life. Show 'em who's boss the first time.
6) Ask questions. Lots of questions. Don't believe everything people tell you just because they say it's true.
7) Be nice to everyone. The kids that are made fun of, the kids that are shy, even the mean kids - they need kindness the most. You never know what's going on in their life.
8) Tell us your biggest dreams! We'll always believe in you and we'll try our best to help you get there.

Party Time!
Norah had the first of her two parties this past weekend. This one was her BIG one. The 2nd will be for all her Pre-K friends... this girl is SPOILED!
This will be the first and last year she is getting two parties.
I'm using the "Golden" birthday excuse - it really does only come once in a lifetime!
Her ruffle ballerina cake:
I Love these paper ballerinas!
My baby girl - so excited to see what I accomplished at home all day while she was at school.
Good thing Grandma was brilliant and wrote Happy Birthday on the stairs...
the sidewalk was immediately washed away by a tsunami:
FIVE - She is 5.
We know how to party.
My favorite kind of screaming!
The Cake Walk Game - this is from awesome Auntie Tegan!
His Game Face.
Look! The Birthday Girl WON!!!
Here's my favorite part of the whole party... Grandpa playing the accordian! All the kids joined in... we should have put on a neighborhood parade :)
Ballet Slippers make hard core pinatas.
No tubes of sugar this year... you're welcome parents!
Time for Cake!
A mad rush...
The aftermath:

Five
Your rolls and chins have vanished
and your legs are much too long
The days of closing shoes
around your chunky feet have gone
No more stick straight ponytails
reaching for the sky
The teething rings and paci days
have sadly all gone by
The days of mispronouncing things
are few and far between
I treasure every funny word
you've ever said to me
Now you talk like you're 15
and your friends look up to you
You're logical beyond your years
in almost everything you do
You're my baby girl
no matter how grown up you'll be
I can hear it in your belly laugh
and see it while you sleep
Just last night I saw it
on your pillow squished up just so
Your face as if it never changed
from oh so long ago
and some of my favorites from long ago...
Love ~ Renee
